My new single Lightning Dream has been released everywhere today. Thank you already for the kind words, streams and downloads. It feels good to be releasing fresh material again.The video for Lightning Dream premieres tonight at 20:00 BST. I had grand ideas for this video but they became impossible as I didn’t have enough processing power on my computer. Dejected and stuck in a rut, I reached for my set of Oblique Strategies cards (by Brian Eno) and pulled one out at random. On it was the simple instruction: “emphasize the flaws”. This sent chills down my back as it was the most inspiring advice I could’ve received. Instead of trying to merge green-screen footage of my face seamlessly, I started pushing the effect too far on purpose, creating glitches and surreal distortions. Laying this digitally destroyed footage over the stunning analogue material that Matthieu Gill and I shot of cloud tanks, and the results became so much more captivating than the original concept. Lastly, I will be playing my first gig of the year in Edinburgh, supporting my friends in Pastel Moon. The gig’s at The Banshee Labyrinth, September 29th with doors opening at 20:00.I haven’t decided for sure but I may sell advance copies of a new record at this show… If I do go ahead with that idea, this will be the only place you can get a copy, and it will be way ahead of the actual release date…
